Creatives:: Posted by bobpasc on December 30, 2007
My observation was that a "Creative" type is sometimes a state of mind that often manifests in a common behavior. It’s a very hard thing to describe, but an easy thing to observe in people.
Obviously, there are different kinds & qualities of creative action. Creative action for the Happy Gigster is of a far different order to that of the professional, which is of a different level to the master, which is of a different order to the genius (where creative manifestation is ex nihilo).
The Happy Gigster’s idea of creative action is to make a list of items / pieces & change the order. This is creative action in the world of mechanics: changing a few things around. Nothing new or original has happened or entered the event, and the best that can be hoped for is effective maintenance; ie the music keeps going. An example of creative action for the professional is developing variations, or extemporisation. The professional can’t guarantee that the extemporising will take off & fly away; but they can undertake to present a skilful set of variations. Fluency in improvisation is, properly, a field of creative action of the master: a repertoire of possible variations (melodic, harmonic, rhythmic) is placed at the service of the musical impulse.
One practical test of effective creative action is our sense of surprise: when we ask how could that have happened? the answer is how could that not have happened?

From the aphorisms: Three ways to discover our faults: ask a friend; ask an enemy; recognise a fault in others.
Would Mr. Listener would be kind enough to present his intent in quoting this aphorism?
Cotswolds Gnomes/Beyond Even:: Posted by Halloway on December 30, 2007…
Fripp’s published response to the angry customer (Diary, Tuesday 11th December 2007), suggesting that the latter be prevented from dealing with DGM in the future, seems very jerk-like, both in attitude and instantaneity.
Assuming the RHVHL’s response to Mr. Angry Customer’s anger-dump on DGM staff was, actually, a considered response, how would Mr. Halloway then understand the comment, please?
